.:Shopaholic:.
Welcome, dear reader! Just wanted to make this quick post. I was happy to have received a couple of October fashion magazines in the mail the other day (pretty late, IMO) and also just purchased a new eye cream that I’m looking forward to trying: Kiehl’s “Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Eye Cream” with copper PCA and Calcium PCA.
It was quite a long ‘journey’ for me to come upon this Kiehl’s product. What do I mean? Well, I went to a Bloomingdale’s re-opening several days ago & they gave each person a $20 giftcard to be used within a short span of 3 or 4 days. I knew I couldn’t come back within that timeframe so I was determined to get something, anything.
I walked around and around each of their two floors full of beautiful clothes, bags, accessories, shoes. I think I was there for two hours which was way, way too long. I liked many items of course but it just wasn’t in my budget. Yet I was determined to not leave empty handed. Definitely a shopaholic, or, bargain hunter, or, can’t-pass-up-a-good-deal-er.
I finally decided to go to the cosmetics section - though I had way too much makeup - and saw that this eye cream was around $40. Since I would never spend that much on any eye cream, I decided to get it now that I have a $20 giftcard. Plus, I’m beginning to see the start of fine lines…eek!
The nice lady who rang me up gave me plenty of samples: Midnight Recovery Serum, Creamy Eye Treatment w/Avocado, Olive Fruit Oil Nourishing Shampoo, and Laneige Water Bank Moisture Cream (its package doesn’t show it’s affiliated with Kiehl’s).
Anyway, I’m ready to dab on that cream and be ‘royal’ with Lorde before I get some much needed beauty sleep. Now that I’ve shared my story with you, what is your favorite fashion read? What are some of your favorite skincare products? Better yet, what are some of your stories of crazy shopping? ;-)

{2014 September}

Last month I wore this outfit for a date night (it was really hot even at sunset) and I can’t wait to wear it again for a GNO (girls’ night out).

I’ve been loving the look of crop tops with long skirts; it makes you look taller and the coverage of the long skirt balances out the small size of the crop top. (In other words, you look classy, not the opposite!) One of my favorite music artists, Jhene Aiko, wears this look very well & it does make her petite frame seem longer.

I’ve also been loving the cutout trend which I love on this top.The straps are nice and wide; am able to wear a normal bra underneath. (I hate wearing strapless bras.)

I really LOVE my heels - they’re only $22 (and still being sold; see link below). They remind me of the heels (that they’re totally copying, hee hee) by Saint Laurent - the ‘classic Jane ankle strap heel’. Sure beats paying $795!

Have a great weekend! Hope this inspires you to shop and have fun with fashion!

Cropped Bustier, black asymmetric skirt, & ‘love’ bracelet: bcbgeneration - The cropped tank is on sale right now -http://www.bcbgeneration.com/Zipper-Front-Bustier/BAF1S249-I6S,default,pd.html

love bracelet also worn in an older post with a Mango top…

Heels: LuLu’s - http://www.lulus.com/products/lulus-elsi-black-single-strap-heels/117698.html

Rings: Michael Kors (see previous post) and jewelmint.com

Bib necklace: gifted

[2014 September]
For my next outfit post, I wore this cute bcbgeneration bracelet with rose gold ‘love’ letters and a Michael Kors rose gold buckle ring which a good friend had gifted me for one of my birthdays. Side note: it’s so smooth when I slide it on my finger…you know what I mean? Most rings I wear seem to have a straight edge so it’s not as ‘comfy’ when putting it on.
For my nails, I decided on a nude shade, this one is called Vanilla Almond by Milani, which you can get at any drugstore. Lately I’ve been obsessed with nude nails. Although I like this color, I still haven’t found the ‘perfect’ nude…let me know what brand+color you love that’s nude. I’d love to test it out!

Conforming, hiding, or becoming someone else to make anything work, is a lie to your soul.
not sure who made this up, but it’s good!

{2014 September}

Yesterday I came across one of my best bargain finds. Doesn’t this look very similar to the Louis Vuitton ‘Alma’ bags? I love this shape and structure. Have been looking for something like this for a long time.

Couldn’t believe I came across this at a Ross store! It’s clean, simple, classic. No loud logos! Smooth zippers! Great, soft/smooth leather! Not too big for my body! The tag says it used to be $190 but Ross’s price was $79.99. I couldn’t pass this up.

Turns out it is made by an Italian company called MyChoice bags & accessories. www.mychoicebags.it

I love that I can use this for everyday, it’s in a neutral color, and I can use it for occasions that aren’t fancy but you still want to look put together, such as a casual dinner. It fits everything I need: wallet, sunglasses, makeup bag, bottled water, phone. Now if I can just find out how to keep the leather clean and protected…

Crop Top: Forever21

Pleated Overall Romper: Forever21 (similar one          here: http://bit.ly/1v47mne )

Ankle Boots: SODA Shoes, “Autry” sold at Tilly’s (link to shoes -> http://bit.ly/1kZNs9n )

Sunglasses: Kate Spade (similar here -> http://bit.ly/1p1hLrB )

Gold hammered hoop earrings: Express

Occasions: anything casual, shopping, running errands, hanging out with friends

When I was jogging one early evening, I came across an elementary school. As I was jogging along the outer fence of their playground, I noticed two little birds ahead of me, perched on the criss-cross wires of the fence. Soon as I jogged passed them, they would fly ahead of me (in a way that if they could draw in the air, it would make an infinite-loop shape) then land on the fence, waiting for me to jog passed them again. They did this dance for the entire length of the fence. It was so cute seeing them flap their yellow and grey feathers; it really was just like something out of Cinderella or Snow White! I love when things like this happen in nature. I take it as a sign that I’m doing the right thing, at the right time.

As I jogged around the front of the elementary school, I noticed their blue doors. A few days later, when I wore the outfit above, I knew it would be good to shoot there.

Although my ankle boots got dirty from wear, I still love them for their affordable price and the cut-out look reminds me of a pared-down version of the popular Balenciaga cut-out booties which the blog, NetRobe, has a great page about: http://bit.ly/1l6k29z

The overall romper by Forever21 is such a fun piece and reminded me of my old school days. For those of you who like crop tops but are shy about showing your tummy, these overalls are a great solution!

Let me know what YOU think of this outfit or the individual pieces. Don’t forget to Hype this outfit on Lookbook.nu !

{posted 2014 August}

In May, I had the pleasure of doing an informal runway show for a local Macy’s. Style & Co was having this spring fashion show all across the U.S. They even had hair and makeup artists for us - what a treat.

Our show was hosted by the lovely blogger of Style Me Grasie. (I didn’t know who she was until after the show when I looked up her blog - it’s great!) I got to model 5 outfits and I hope I inspired the audience to buy some of the pieces. I ended up buying the maxi dress! Why not? I had a Macy’s Friends & Family coupon afterall ;-)

I was surprised at the nice quality and affordable prices of Style & Co. I think they’re a good choice when you’re looking for classic pieces.

During the end of September, the weather was still really warm over by the coast. I love that I was still able to wear this chain-detailed, gold shimmery tank by Love Tree (although it was way too big for me - a size large - I couldn’t help buying it not only because it’s cute but it was only $15!). The sheer split paneling of the black backside also makes for an interesting look.

The wine colored jeggings by Uniqlo are really comfortable and have back pockets which I appreciate because then it doesn’t feel as ‘bare’ as regular leggings.

I love the chain and quilted detailing of the Mango purse. My black, open-to shoes are by Steve Madden; gold honeycomb earrings from Anthropologie, gold rings from Nordstrom, gold bracelet from Piperlime.com, and subtle, cat-eye sunglasses by Kate Spade.

This outfit is great for:

  • going out on a date
  • going to dinner
  • hanging out with friends at a nice lounge/bar

Feel free to comment on this look/post and be sure to ‘hype’ it on Lookbook.nu/flipflopsandsequins !    ~*Thank You*~

In the middle of last month, I got a chance to attend one of Uniqlo’s pre-grand opening parties in Santa Clara, California. {Click on any of the photos above to view them as a slideshow}

I first heard of this brand a few years ago from reading Glamour magazine. I remember there was an outfit put together and one of the items was an army green anorack/jacket. That was when this style of jacket was first becoming trendy. And by the way, because of that photo, I bought an army green jacket from Aritizia!

Then in 2011 I got a chance to shop at their SoHo store in New York City but all I bought were a pair of khaki shorts (for less than $20!). Just didn’t have time to shop that day and it was very crowded. But I remember they had so many good-quality items for very reasonable prices. As I was walking through the streets of the Big Apple that day, a stranger (I think she was from Germany by the sound of her accent) stopped me and pointed at my Uniqlo shopping bag telling me that she was looking for that store and could I help her. Of course! Always like to help out a fellow fashionista ;)

Anyways, back to the grand opening. It was fun and I ended up purchasing one of their light down jackets (in plum color) for only $25 before tax! What a great bargain - it was on sale from $79 to $49. Each attendee that night was given a $25 gift card that was good for only that night (THANK YOU, Uniqlo!) so that’s how I snagged such a good deal.

My next outfit post which was shot way before I knew about the grand opening, actually features a pair of jeggings I purchased from their San Francisco store earlier this year.

Thanks for reading and if you’re interested in shopping this brand, they now have an online store: www.uniqlo.com

My typical day… Well in the morning, I wake up. I go home. …
I don’t remember exactly how he worded this but it’s from “Stefon”, the character on Saturday Night Live. This quote was from the episode hosted by Bruno Mars. He’s hilarious!! Videos here ->  http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/exclusives/stefon/
